Although we all like anime fans, there are other things that take up the time of the Greenwood residents and guests.
Among them are the various video games that come and go through the electronic hallways of Greenwood. Many of them are
tried. Few make the grade to become one of...
The Greenwood PC Games
The following games have gotten the Greenwood seal of approval. They have showed consistent playability, ability to hold
interest, and are an overall good time. These games have withstood long term play and provide constant amusement. The
games that have made the cut are (in no particular order):
- Everquest [PC On-line Roleplaying Game]
- The current pinnacle of on-line RPG's. A highly addictive game in the mythical land of Norrath.
- Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings [PC Strategy Game]
- The second incarnation of this very well made game. Just watch out for the trebuchets!
- Unreal Tournament [PC First Person/Tactical Shooter]
- The latest in FPS! Multiple weapon modes, numerous bots, and some slick graphics make it the reigning champion.
- Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear [PC First Person/Tactical Shooter]
- 3D terrorist hunter! Single shot, single kill! Make your moves carefully or get sniped!
- Aliens vs Predator [PC First Person Shooter]
- Oh the sounds are just perfect! Acid and javelins and smart guns, oh MY! Visually... Audio... so many things
were done RIGHT in this game.
- Half Life [PC First Person Shooter]
- A good slow-paced shooter with some neat options and booby traps! Great for multiplayer.
- Diablo [PC Roleplaying Game]
- Imagine Gauntlet on steroids. A walk through many levels of dunegons to face the greatest evil... Diablo! And an
ending that will just leave you speechless.
- Fallout [PC Roleplaying Game]
- This game was an excellent post-apocalyptic role playing. It had depth, interesting characters and situations, and
an excellent plot. Not to mention a totally non-sequitor sense of humor. (I mean which other RPG would find you finding
crashed alien spacecraft, running across Dr Who's TARDIS, and wielding the most powerful conventional weapon known to
man-kind... the Red Rider BB gun!) An well crafted game which deserves a lot of credit for being top-notch in many
areas.
- Might and Magic 6 [PC Roleplaying Game]
- The latest in a classic line of role playing games. Although the graphics look a little cheesy when you first see it,
it is a solid RPG, which is very addictive to play. Its the only game which has been played simultaneously on three
computers in the house... and it isn't a multi-player game!
- Quake II [PC First Person Shooter]
- A fun first person shooter, with fun multi-player capabilities. Up to four players have simultaneously struggled to
survive in the shadowy Quake II world. The sound of someone getting quad-damage was always a thing to be feared.
- Starcraft [PC Strategy Game]
- Three races vie for control of the universe and you're in command. (Mehve says, "Ecch bleehh moo phhttpbt!"...
or "Zerg rule!") After Quake II, this was THE game. Titanic wars were fought within the walls of Greenwood. At times
we had up to six computers engaged in battle. Unfortunately, StarCraft definitely still has some bugs. One of our
most epic battles, The "Upstairs-Downstairs War", was a three-on-three battle (with the two teams physically separated by
the stairs) which came to an end due to a bug. During the start of a major air offensive by Cerebrate Mehve, and a
valiant templar defense by Captain Rugged, the game kicked four of the six players out. But all in all, the game has
been a favorite of the house. Here's some pics featuring Mehve's favorite forces... the Zerg Airforce!
Here are guardians taking apart the remnants of a Protoss base, and a squad of
mutalisks retreating from an arbiter.
- Here are some honorable mentions:
- Blade Runner [PC], Command and Conquer [PC], Wing Commander Prophesy [PC].
(Personally, Mehve's still waiting for the ULTIMATE game... He figures it'll be Super Deformed Dancing Fighting Rapping
Robot Wars II: Electric Boogaloo. (Try saying that five times fast.) A real-time multi-user strategy game with super
deformed robots which then cuts to a fighting game which involves fighting, puzzles, dancing, and rapping with both old
and new mechs!)
