Mehve's Glide Path
June 5-12, 2004

In June of 2004, some friends and I rented a beach house on Oak Island in North Carolina. We stayed in a house called Lady Di's. It was fantastic. It was literally 10 steps down the stairs and you were standing in the sand. I can't think of anything better than waking up in the morning, the house being quiet (I wake up early), sitting on the back porch, listening and watching the surf roll in, cup of coffee on the table, reading. Then later swimming, sunning, flying kites, and relaxing. We also visited the Aquarium at Fort Fisher. One day was also guys vs gals day, which the guys spent deep sea fishing aboard the Horsin' Around, a 36' Hatteras Express. We caught our dinner for that night and ate well!

Here's Big Box following Red Rover. Here's the Blue Bomber. The ocean was all of forty feet away. It was really awesome. Here's an early morning shot of our street. Blue Bomber, Big Box, and Red Rover at Lady Di's. Here's looking west on the beach Us tossing around the frisbee. On the last night we managed to play with the lit-up-glow-in-the-dark frisbee but none of the pictures took. Here's the boat we took our fishing charter on, the Horsin' Around with Captain Jeff Peoples. Us boarding the boat. The captain said there was a difference between fishing and catching. This was definitely a catching trip! About 10 minutes before we had to turn back to shore, the king mackerel line hit. Weasel and I teamed up and brought the beast aboard. It was definitely good eating! Typically I woke up at around 6:30... usually the first awake until Weasel woke up (not much later). Then the rest of folks started moving around 8. The pier in the distance is Long Pier, the aptly named longest pier in North Carolina. One of the nice things about waking up early, I got to see things like this. It was so much more vivid in real life. We took a day off to visit the aquarium at Fort Fisher. This was our only big meal outing at the nearby Fish House. The food was really good.
